Channel tufting
Button tufted upholstery is well known thanks to the classic chesterfield and popular mid-century styles. But its linear cousin — channel tufting — is the latest trend in embellished upholstery.
What Is Channel Tufting?
In furniture and upholstery, tufting refers to a pattern stitched into layers of fabric. Tufting was originally developed to keep furniture’s filling in place, but today it’s mostly aesthetic. Chesterfield sofas are an example of traditional diamond tufting, but more subtle tufting (with or without buttons) is often seen in modern and contemporary furniture. Instead of diamond or square patterns, channel tufted fabric is simply stitched into parallel lines, giving a textured look that’s easy to pair with other furniture.
We love polyurethane upholstery! It’s sleek, easy to clean, and gives you the look of leather without the price. Our Barkley Collection of dining chairs and stools brings you all the benefits of polyurethane finished with channel stitching on the back and seat. A sculptural iron base gives these chairs an industrial feel that pairs perfectly with reclaimed wood furniture and other metal accents. Best of all, these channel stitch chairs are stylish and comfortable enough to use at your desk or as extra living room seating.
Covered in plush velvet, our Tarrin Storage Bench adds instant glamour to the foot of your bed, living room or entryway. A channel tufted seat means unlike other benches, Tarrin is a comfortable and trending addition to your space. Equally impressive, this storage bench makes extra room for linens, shoes or anything you want to tidy up ASAP.
Upholstered headboards are another inspired way to bring channel tufting home, and the linear pattern adds interest without overpowering the rest of your bedroom décor. Love to read in bed? A padded channel back headboard makes staying up late infinitely more comfortable. With trendy channel tufting and mid-century wood legs, our Dexter Custom Bed is an ultra stylish addition to your bedroom. Available in queen and king sizes and hundreds of fabrics, Dexter lets channel tufting take centre stage in your cozy, contemporary room.
