1. Modern wingbacks
In the 1600s wingback chairs were purely functional. The high back and sides—or wings, rather—provided enveloping warmth when tucked up against the fire. We’re loving the modern renaissance of wingback chairs with updated textures and dramatic contemporary curves.
Le Tuco Shearling Accent Chair from Crate & Barrel by Athena Calderone.
Lewis Armchair from Urban Barn.
2. Scandi space-savers
Clean, simple lines. Bright and airy finishes. These hallmarks of Scandinavian design have the added benefit of complementing smaller spaces. Whether a cozy apartment or nook in a large house, a Scandi-inspired dining table with modern criss-cross legs creates visual appeal and the allusion of more space.
Table 02 from Zara Home by Vincent Van Duysen.
Colver Round Dining Table from Urban Barn.
3. Swivel me this
Swivel armchairs, once confined to office spaces, are breaking the mould as the IT trend for lounging and dining in 2024. These ergonomic and stylish designs come in different shapes and fabrics, from leather to bouclé to vibrant colours. We favour modern barrel shapes in elevated ivory upholstery.
Gwyneth Boucle Swivel Chair from CB2 by Goop.
Viola Swivel Chair from Urban Barn.
4. ‘70s curves
Rooted in trends of the 1970s and ‘80s, curved furniture has been revamped with a retro-made-modern look for the 21st century. The contemporary versions feel sleeker than their ‘70s counterparts, and we’re a big fan of the look in fresh ivory tones.
Laszlo Apartment Sofa from CB2.
Ellison Sofa Chaise from Urban Barn.
5. Very demure, very mindful
Started by Jools Lebron on TikTok, the “very demure, very mindful” trend took off in 2024. At this point, it’s become more lifestyle than trend. Think subtle, polite, dainty, but not too dainty. A cabinet like the below with a clean arch and windowpane glass to house dishware or décor is the epitome of demure furniture.
Fern Storage Cabinet from Anthropologie.
Lilibet Reclaimed Wood Cabinet from Urban Barn.
6. Warmth of wood
If you have an interest in design, you’ve probably noticed wood as one of the big trends in 2024, and it looks like it’s here to stay (we’re not complaining). Warm-toned wood makes a space feel instantly cozy while highlighting the woodgrain’s natural beauty. We love this finish in bedrooms for the calming, organic vibes.
Keane Driftwood Charging Nightstand from Crate & Barrel.
Carpenter Nightstand from Urban Barn.
7. On cloud nine
Platform beds with oversize pillow headboards have had the internet swooning this year. With a super plush look, these designs are as chic as they are cozy whether you’re sitting up or lying down, making the frame a perfect excuse for breakfast in bed.
Cloud Platform Bed from Restoration Hardware.
Brandt Bed from Urban Barn.
8. All about texture
For winter, it’s all about creating warm, inviting spaces layered in thick and cozy textures. Upholstery with these characteristics will carry you through anything from hosting parties to quiet movie nights. While bouclé has been trending up all year long, we’re loving organic wool-adjacent fabrics this season.
L’Enchere Square Wool Ottoman from Crate & Barrel by Athena Calderone.
Gloria Ottoman from Urban Barn.
9. Sleek and simple lighting
Minimalists, rejoice! Sleek and simple is the way to go for floor and table lighting that’s functional, low-key and visually pleasing. To achieve this style, seek clean lines and straightforward shapes in monochromatic colours. The result is an elegant, uncluttered look that endures trends and seasons.
Ode Freestanding Floor Lamp from Herman Miller.
Marcelo Floor Lamp from Urban Barn.
Keeley Table Lamp from Urban Barn.
10. Lean into it
On the theme of sleek minimalism, we’re seeing understated leaner mirrors on the rise this season. Arched silhouettes give he mirror a touch of softness for a versatile look that’s not too harsh, but elegant and sophisticated. Frame yours with holiday lights or garlands to give it a festive look.
Idris Full Length Mirror from Lulu and Georgia.
Erika Arched Leaner Mirror from Urban Barn.
